I blinked again, staggering backward, afraid that I would fall. Oh my gosh! My heart sank. What was I thinking? What had I been thinking? My assistant? Oh gosh! The man wasn’t some random employee. I told the vice president of the company to shut up!

That’s the rule Harper lives by. Ever since her parent’s nasty divorce, Harper Lewis decided that no one would make her experience that. No matter how in love she was.

Harper is a corporate consultant and accepts a job in Dallas, Texas, with Parker Oil and Gas. She immediately realizes that she’s very out of place with her laid-back California style. Life goes from bad to worse for Harper when she mistakes the company’s vice president as her assistant.

Despite their horrible start, Harper grows feelings for J.P. while attending a company hunt at the Parker Family Ranch. She quickly realizes that J.P. isn’t the egomaniac she thinks he is. As the two grow closer, he wants more.

But she can’t stay. She can’t fall in love. Or can she? Can he make her choose to stay?
