My Navy SEAL Neighbor
A haunted house, a Halloween dare, and a grumpy Navy SEAL. Living in a peaceful small town, I have to make my own entertainment. Especially on Halloween. What could go wrong if I sneak into a supposedly abandoned house dressed as Catwoman? Maybe being arrested for trespassing, because I just turned 18, and the cops had warned me about this sort of thing the year before. Instead, I nearly get shot by a mysterious man with a sculpted physique and eyes that could melt even the coldest hearts.
Something about my brash attitude makes him think I need a very special lesson before letting me go. And just like that, I’m hooked.
His name is Joe, he’s on leave and, because I can’t say way from him, I offer my help to fix up the house. I love spending time with him. I don’t know if I’m drawn more to his his chiseled physique or his eyes that mesmerize like pools of golden honey dappled with flecks of bright green and deep brown.
It doesn’t take long for us to start a doomed affair. Our explosive chemistry makes me ignore our family’s curse. I shouldn’t want more. I shouldn’t want a family with him because for three generations the men in my family went to war and didn’t come back alive. But my heart refuses to listen to reason, and our physical connection spirals into something more profound.
Once his leave ends, I live in fear that my feelings have marked him for death. My worst fear seems to come true when, weeks later, Joe gets hurt. Nothing can keep me from his hospital bed. Lying that I’m his daughter makes it possible for me to be with him, as he struggles between life and death. Things get complicated when his parents arrive and meet an unexpected granddaughter.
As Joe recovers from his injury, we spend a strange Christmas lying to our families. Our little white lies fade away and we have to make a choice about our future.
